Holy Week in Pictures: 2019

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the best about grabbing the camera in the midst of living our life. I prefer eating a meal well over photographing it and it always seems that my mother hands are filled with trinkets instead of a camera. However, I did take a bit of extra effort to photograph some of our Holy Week happenings.

Hope you enjoy!

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is low key at our home. We simply added the Palm Sunday print and palms from Mass to our prayer table.

  • Decorate feast table
  • Mass
Our Palm Sunday feast table: Palm Sunday print, sacrifice jar/beans, nails (given by a friend), and palm bouquet.

Monday and Tuesday

Lots of spring cleaning these days. I was able to get the decluttering and organizing done throughout Lent, so I was left with the dirty cleaning jobs that don’t happen often like window washing, porch floor scrubbings, light fixture polishing, rotating mattresses, and changing out our flannel sheets.

I was grateful that I had the organizing out of the way – there is no way I would have had the energy to tackling decluttering, organizing, and cleaning in these few days.

Sorry! No pictures! I was too busy cleaning!

Spy Wednesday

I was thrilled to be notified that all the planners were finished up at the local print shop. The kids and I picked up the planners and then did the grocery shopping for the remainder of Holy Week and Easter.

I have fallen in love with Walmart grocery pick-up. I keep a price book and have found them to be competitive with Aldi on many items except for some of their produce. Use this link to get $10 off your first Walmart grocery pick-up order (and I’ll get $10 too!-thanks!)

  • More spring cleaning
  • Grocery shopping (hello Walmart pick-up for the win!)
The planners are all in! Yeah! Find them here.

Holy Thursday

No pictures for today. We had a Passover-ish meal of lamb roast, bread (the kids requested yeast bread and I obliged), salad (bitter herbs), and applesauce (for charoseth), and sparkling juice (wine).

After supper it was off to Mass.

Good Friday

  • Start the Divine Mercy Chaplet
  • Hot Cross Buns
  • Mass
Hot Cross Buns for our light snack lunch. We used this recipe, substituted raisins for currants.
Maybe not liturgically appropriate, but the kids were delighted to find daffodils blooming. They always make bouquets for the prayer table, and it was hard to say “no” to that face.
Praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet outside with the kids. While we try hard to keep Good Friday solemn, it was difficult this year as it was the first day to have sunshine and warm weather that week

Holy Saturday

Holy Saturday was spent in preparing for Sunday. The weather was cooperative so we spent some time cleaning up the yard and enjoying the sunshine. Of course, there was egg dying and other food preparations.

Lowell (11) and I were able to make it to the Easter Vigil. I’ve been a convert now for 8 years and this was my first vigil Mass. It was unbelievably wonderful! Lowell and I agree unanimously that it is our favorite Mass of all time (if it isn’t sacrilegious to say so!).

  • Dying eggs

  • Divine Mercy Chaplet
Easy Peasy $1 Paschal Candle: I used a $1 votive from the Dollar Tree and created this printable to print, cut, and then used clear packing tape to affix to the glass votive. I LOVE IT!
Here is the printable for the votive paschal candle. It is still Easter so it is not too late!

Easter Sunday

Everyone felt better in the morning, and so we were still able to go to Easter Sunday services together!

  • Mass
  • Easter basket
  • Easter egg hunting
  • Easter brunch
The first of the summer flowers have finally arrived and the kids are busy bringing me bouquets!
Family Easter Basket: Sudoku workbooks, Sketch Diaries (for summer nature study), playdough, sidewalk chalk, wooden glider planes, Preschool mazes, Winnie’s Great War (from Goodwill), Easter stamps (Dollar Tree), Candy, Mercy Watson series, and lots more little treasures!
Posing for the annual Easter picture!
And one of Husband and me- though we aren’t half as cute!
Daddy helps fix a tie while the dynamic duo strike a pose!
Climbing up to reach an egg!
An Easter surprise! Christian takes his first bite of ice cream in two and a half years. (You can read more of his story here).
Easter Feast Table. Pascal Candle Votive (see above download), Easter tree, “He is Risen” chalkboard sign (chalkboard sign from Hobby Lobby), Holy Week Print featuring resurrection, “Alleluia” painted paper mache letters (unfinished letters from Hobby Lobby).

Wishing you all a very blessed Easter season!
